The Laredo Country Club is the premier member owned private country club in South Texas. Our dining outlets include the Magnolia Grille with fine dining, Main Bar with upscale modern cuisine, 19th Hole with casual dining, Pool & Cabana with al fresco dining and Curbside. Our banquet spaces feature a 7,000 sq. ft. Ballroom for up to 450 guests, an attached 1,000 sq. ft. Plantation Room for up to 80 guests, the 1,050 sq. ft. Rosewood for up to 70 guests, the 1,000 sq. ft. Party Room poolside for up to 90 guests, and the outdoor patio & verandas. Our golf facilities feature a newly renovated 18-hole championship golf course that averages 20,000 rounds, a fully stocked Golf Pro Shop and club repair shop, an 1,800 sq. ft. practice putting green, a newly constructed short game performance area, a two-bay teaching facility outfitted with state-of-the-art fitting systems, and a full shot driving range featuring an additional two chipping areas. Other club amenities include a thriving tennis program, fitness center, and aquatics.

Position Summary

The Banquet Captain is responsible for directing each banquet staff in the entire meal service and assign tasks to them as required. Their duties include teaching new staff members how to execute their designated tasks in the banquet. Also, they organize meetings to give updates on service or policy changes, as well as, administering any staff issues and resolving them in a timely manner. Additionally, the captain will guide the setup of the banquet, preserve service supplies, and ensure all sanitary regulations and club policies on appropriate and safe food handling are followed by every staff member. The Banquet Captain provides a consistent product, delivers exceptional member experience, managing costs and ensures all staff under direct supervision are focused while demonstrating a member centric attitude and culture. In addition to maintaining our vision by adhering to our values, this position must provide the highest level of service to our member and their guests.

Principle Duties

  • Be available to clients at all times prior to, during or after an event, out on the floor and easily visible able to alleviate questions/concerns and provide excellent client service.
  • Participate as needed in meetings with the Director of Catering, Assistant Catering Director, Banquet Manager, Banquet Chef and/or Executive Chef to review menu requests and/or banquet event orders.
  • Understand and be able to communicate catering menu details and pricing.

As Banquet Manager you will get to:

  • Lead a team in providing exceptional member services in preparation, during and following events.
  • Visually inspect function rooms and equipment prior to functions for cleanliness and accurate setup.
  • Review, maintain and stay up-to-date with upcoming events, communicating regularly with the Catering Sales Team, Banquet Event Order, and kitchen details with Catering team to ensure they have all necessary information to guarantee a successful event and ensure billing is complete and processed in a timely manner.
  • Order alcoholic beverages (requisitions) as well as other beverages for events.
  • Oversee clearing and cleaning of all venues; returning, cleaning and restocking of equipment.
  • Graciously and quickly manage any employee or client issues; report issues to the Banquet Manager.
  • Engage and/or take a lead in regular, consistent meetings with employees, from one-to-one check-ins to pre-shift, team and department meetings.
  • Ensure cleanliness of the event by maintaining to specified standards, passing Health Department audits and training staff on proper sanitation and safety guidelines.
  • Step in for staff as needed in urgent circumstances.
  • Attend staff and management meetings as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor or other management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • One to three years of supervision experience preferably in a large-scale Catering environment
  • One to three years of experience of audio/visual production and set up
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent; Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Serve Safe Certification, Texas Food Handlers Card, and Texas State Alcohol Card and Training required
  • First Aid Training and CPR Certification preferred
  • Proficiency in MS Office; Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Knowledge of industry systems and software; Jonas preferred.
  • Ability to work any day shift; evenings, weekends, and certain holidays. Ability to work on-call as needed.
  • Able to work ten-hour plus shifts, plus the ability to stand, sit or walk for extended periods of time
  • Able to grasp, lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds as needed
  • Maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance at all times
  • Must possess hearing, visual and sensory abilities to observe and detect emergency situations; to distinguish product, taste, texture, temperature and presentation and preparation.
  • At times will be asked to work long periods out doors during major club tournaments.
